How to Enjoy Holiday Food While Watching Your Blood Pressure

Thanksgiving and your blood pressure

This post is going to be extremely short but wanted to make sure that anyone reading this knows this one thing in particular today.

Since it’s a pretty good bet that whatever holiday you are celebrating today or in the next few weeks there will probably be an abundance of food.
Even with high blood pressure, most people will be eating foods that have more sodium than usual – and that’s probably putting it mildly.

Tips to Help You Survive All the Holiday Food with Good BP Numbers

What to do? First, just make sure you are also eating more foods with potassium such as walnuts, bananas, celery, and oatmeal.
  • The celery actually has something in it that causes the lining of the blood vessels to relax so they open up a bit. So it’s a great thing to pick up off the relish tray!
  • And with all that turkey's tryptophan, you may just feel like taking a nap... which is also really good for your blood pressure!
  • Also, drink a bit more water to help flush the sodium out of your body.
  • Above all - don't stress, it doesn't have to be perfect...  and
Enjoy your holidays!
